Dr. Gabriel Echegaray, Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Gabriel J. Echegaray is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery. He will begin seeing patients at our San Marco location starting September 15, 2025.

Dr. Echegaray completed his Hand, Microsurgery, and Upper Extremity Fellowship at the University of New Mexico, where he gained extensive experience treating complex cases in an underserved community. Prior to that, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency and served as Chief Resident at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where he also completed a research fellowship and general surgery internship. He earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University.

An active contributor to the field of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Echegaray has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented his research at national and international meetings. His academic interests include tendon injuries, fracture management, and surgical outcomes in hand and upper extremity conditions.

Born in Tampa, Florida, and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Echegaray is fluent in both English and Spanish. His philosophy of care centers on attention to detail and providing the highest quality, evidence-based treatment tailored to the unique needs of each individual patient. In addition to his clinical work, he has been extensively involved in community service, including participation in healthcare brigades in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, tutoring underserved high school students, and volunteering with multiple health outreach organizations.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Echegaray enjoys cooking, sports, and spending time with his family. He is also a devoted dog owner and remains active in both professional and community organizations.
