What is Mazor X™ Stealth Robotic Spine Surgery?

Mazor X™ Stealth Robotic Spine Surgery is now available for patients at JOI. Our experienced JOI Orthopedic Spine Surgeons are able to provide this service for their patients undergoing Spinal Fusion procedures. The Mazor X™ Stealth Robotic Guidance System allows experienced JOI Orthopedic Spine Surgeons to create a detailed surgical plan prior to the procedure and execute that plan precisely. Robot-Assisted Spine Surgery helps assure accuracy of screw placement and can improve outcomes, by reducing complications and healing times.

The future is here! Robotic spine surgery utilizes guidance technology to improve the visibility and precision during Spine Surgery. This gives the surgeon increased predictability with the procedure. Robotic spine surgery can make a complex spinal fusion a more minimally invasive experience. This can mean smaller incisions, lower risks of complications, and shorter hospital stays. Spinal Fusion Surgery has historically been performed by either freehand Pedicle screw placement or Flouroscopic guidance.

Flouroscopy is a form of X-ray which helps the surgeon to align the devices and ensure proper depth of the pedicle screws. However, flouroscopy exposes the patient to radiation. Studies show that Robot-Assisted Spine Surgery exposes the patient less than 1/2 of the amount of radiation per screw by helping align the device.

The Jacksonville Orthopedic Institute and Baptist Health are proud to now offer Mazor X™ Stealth Robotic Spine Surgery. This procedure is currently performed by JOI Orthopedic Spine Surgeons Dr. Gregory Keller and Dr. James Perry.
