Robotic Spine Surgery
The Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute offers a Robotic Assisted Spine Surgery at the Baptist Downtown Surgical Center. This is the latest technology in Robotic Surgery. It allows the surgeon to create a detailed surgical plan for each individual patient prior to beginning the surgery. Robotic Spine Surgery utilizes robotic arms to guide surgical devices and instruments. This allows the surgeon to have a more precise angle and position when entering the spine. Robotic Spine Surgery also allows for complex spinal fusion surgery to be performed with small incisions or it is frequently referred to as more minimally invasive.
Laser Therapy
JOI Rehab’s Class 4 Laser Therapy is an FDA cleared modality that reduces inflammation and ultimately results in pain reduction. Laser Therapy is effective in treating acute pain, chronic conditions and post-op pain. Deep Tissue Laser Therapy treatments are administered in 5 to 10 minutes. Typically patients see results after 3 to 5 treatment sessions. Deep Tissue Laser Therapy utilizes your body’s own healing powers by stimulating cellular activity. Despite fast treatment times, laser therapy treatments initiate a healing process that continues to actively reduce inflammation for up 24 hours after treatment. JOI Physicians use a variety of Hyaluronic Acid injections. Hyaluronic acid injections are an early intervention treatment for patients who suffer from Osteoarthritis. The gel which is injected is a natural supplement for the synovial fluid of the joint. The goal is to decrease pain so that the patient is able to return to an active lifestyle. There is no need to suffer from the effects of Osteoarthritis.
Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement
Reverse total shoulder replacements are a viable procedure for patients with large rotator cuff tears or shoulder arthritis. The procedure involves artificially replacing the ball and cup of the shoulder joint. This alternate technique of joint replacement allows the deltoid to do the majority of the work when moving the arm. Changing the major muscles involved in moving the arm allows for increased functionality, mobility, and reduced pain.

Robotic Partial & Total Knee and Total Hip Replacements
Robot assisted Makoplasty is a state of the art procedure used in total hip, total knee and partical knee replacements. This new technology allows physicians to optimally shape the hip or knee joints to fit the new prosthetics and reduce the loss of healthy bone. Mako partial joint replacements are minimally invasive and result in more natural range of motion and less recovery time compared to other joint replacement procedures.
PRP Injections
Platelet rich plasma injections are a clinically proven treatment for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. In this procedure, the patient’s own blood is taken and spun down to be separated. The platelet portion of the blood is then added back to the knee joint. This has shown to stimulate growth factors reducing inflammation and further loss of cartilage while improving the overall function in the knee.
Needle Aponeurotomy
Needle aponeurotomy procedures are a minimally invasive alternative to surgery in the treatment of Dupuytren’s contractures.
