Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries Or ACL Tears

ACL injuries are one of the most common types of sports injuries in contact and non-contact sports. The problem occurs when the foot is fixed to the ground and the body rotates or pivots over the knee.

The problem is that ACL Tears do not heal on there own.

How Are ACL Injuries Fixed?

ACL tears are typically fixed with a reconstruction surgery. ACL reconstruction is usually a minimally invasive procedure that allows the surgeon to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament with either a graft from the patients body, or a graft from a tissue donor.

How Long is Recovery After an ACL Repair Surgery?

Most patients are walking on there own with a brace within a few weeks after surgery.  However, full recovery and return to sports can take between 6 to 12 months.  Patients attend physical therapy during recovery to assist in regaining full strength and range of motion in the knee and leg.
