Which is the correct way to spell orthopaedic/orthopedic? The quick answer is the Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute uses the original “”orthopaedic”” spelling because it was widely accepted in most Universities and higher education institutions. Often I am asked, what does orthopedic or orthopaedic mean and what is the orthopedic definition? Orthopaedic is derived from the Greek word “”orthos”” which is straight and “”paideion”” which is child. The word “”orthopedic”” evolved as a common use of the word in the United States. So, either way you spell it is acceptable!
