The JOI Rehab San Marco location is the largest Physical and Occupation Therapy Center in the NorthEast Florida Region. This recently renovated clinic is on the Baptist Downtown Campus in the Reid Medical Building. JOI Rehab San Marco offers Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Hand Therapy, Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Sports Rehab, DME or Bracing, Laser Therapy, Graston Therapy, whirlpools for wound debridement of hands, KT Taping and Return to Sports Services at our new Sports Center. We work closely with your JOI Physician but we also work with any physician who prescribes one of our services. Our goal is to return you to your prior level of function with good customer service.

Renan Abagat, PT
Cebu Doctors’ College, Philippines (March 1990)
Renan has been practicing Physical Therapy since 1991. He has worked in all therapy settings but the bulk of his experience is in outpatient orthopaedics. His special interests include neuromuscular reeducation as an adjunct to manual medicine.
Ehren Allen, PT, COMT
Ehren Allen performed his undergraduate training in Music at the Florida State University. He went on to complete his professional training in Physical Therapy at Florida A&M University. He practiced in many specialty areas since 2000, including neurology, pediatrics, and private practice before deciding to specialize in orthopedics and sports medicine. He completed his certification as an Orthopedic Manual Therapist in 2007 through the Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Group and currently incorporates manual therapy into the treatment of various orthopedic conditions and injuries.
Daniel Brady DPT
Daniel is a New Jersey native who graduated from Rider University (2013) with a Bachelor’s in Behavioral Neuroscience, where he was a member of the Swimming and Diving team. He went on to pursue his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from The University of Florida and graduated in 2017. Daniel fulfilled multiple internships while at the University of Florida, including an outpatient sports rotation at the Texas Metroplex Institute where he had the opportunity to work with athletes of all age ranges and gained a strong interest for outpatient orthopedics. He is excited to be part of the JOI team.
Luke Bratton ATC
Luke is a graduate from University of North Florida with a major in Athletic Training. His clinical experience includes Division-I athletics with the UNF softball and soccer team. He was also part of the Sports Medicine staff for Jacksonville University Football. He is currently the Athletic Trainer for Fernandina Beach High School Athletics, providing sports medicine coverage for practices and games. Luke focuses his treatment based on a combination of manual therapy and therapeutic exercises to build strength, stability and improve ROM. Luke enjoys playing beach volleyball, kayaking, swimming, and playing guitar. Luke is now the ATC for the Jacksonville Sharks.
Samantha Brown, ATC, LAT

Samantha graduated from Emory & Henry College in 2016 with her Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. In the Fall of 2017, she continued her education by working on her Master’s degree in Advanced Athletic Training at the University of South Florida. Samantha worked for two years as an intern at Warner University in central Florida where she was primarily responsible for men’s soccer and baseball. Samantha joined JOI in July of 2018 and is serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for Atlantic Coast High School.

Jessica is originally from New Jersey and moved to Florida for graduate school. She decided to go back to school after being exposed to occupational therapy, and falling in love with the career. During her internships she gained experience in many settings including inpatient rehab, schools, pediatrics, and outpatient orthopedics. She thoroughly enjoyed working in the outpatient setting and decided to pursue her career in this setting. She is excited to begin her career at JOI.
Bridget Carey, PTA
Bridget has been a practicing physical therapist assistant here at JOI since November 2017. She was born and raised here in Jacksonville where she attended Duncan U. Fletcher High School. She then went onto West Virginia University where she walked onto the Varsity Volleyball team and competed in the Big East as a Libero/ Defensive Specialist. She then went on to transfer to the University of Central Florida where she completed her Bachelors in Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She found her love for the field of Physical Therapy during her last semester at UCF while working with patients in the Aphasia House where she was given the opportunity to be apart of the rehabilitation of patients that were affected by TBI, stroke, and other neurological deficits. She then attended the PTA program at FSCJ and graduated in August of 2017. In her free time she enjoys playing beach volleyball, riding her beach cruiser, and playing with her two dachshunds.
Shelby has been with JOI since June 2018. She is a native of Florida and moved from Sarasota to Jacksonville in 2014.
Chang Chau, OT

Chang is a Jacksonville native who graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of St. Augustine in 2015 with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree. During his clinical internships he treated both traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury patients at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital and placed special emphasis on upper extremity orthopedics at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center. Prior to becoming an Occupational Therapist, Chang graduated from the University of North Florida with a B.S. in Health and Exercise Science and is a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine. He is currently working towards obtaining his Certification in Hand Therapy. Go Jags!

Prior to graduating from Occupational Therapy school, Lily worked as an Exceptional Student Educator in St. Johns County, FL. She has worked in a variety of settings, including subacute care, skilled nursing, outpatient orthopedics, and home health. She is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist.
Michelle Duclos, MA, ATC, LAT, CES

Michelle gained valuable experience at UF by working with the volleyball and football teams. She later interned at the University of South Florida and worked with the football team, which was invited to the Meineke Car Care Bowl, the first bowl game in USF history. While at USF, she worked mainly with the Women’s volleyball team, and helped to cover the NCAA Women’s Final Four in 2008 and the NCAA Men’s First and Second Rounds hosted in Tampa. She also helped host the Big East Tennis and Baseball Tournaments in 2008. She came to JOI in 2008, and is presently the athletic trainer for events and practices at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Michelle also serves as Sports Medicine Director.
Ben Evans, PT, DPT
Ben graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. in Psychology (2007) and from the University of St. Augustine program with a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree (2014). He has worked primarily in outpatient orthopedics treating surgical and non-surgical conditions from the neck to the foot and vestibular dysfunctions. His doctoral studies developed a strong background in manual and orthopedic physical therapy and allowed him the opportunity to complete all courses for his Manual therapy Certification (MTC) from the University of St. Augustine. In his off time, he enjoys working out, surfing and spending time with his friends and family.

Kerri is a Jacksonville native who graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in 2010. She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Florida in April 2017 and began working for JOI in August 2017. While in PT school Kerri completed an internship in Arlington, TX working with a large sports medicine facility gaining experience in post-operative treatment and high level athletic training. She enjoys treating an array of patient populations and has a special interest in post-concussion rehabilitation. Kerri is active in the American Physical Therapy Association, attending the annual conferences in order to stay current with evidence-based practices and techniques.
Thomas Gorman, ATC
Thomas has been a certified athletic trainer since September of 2010. He has experience working with a multitude of sports with a vast range of age groups. Originally a Massachusetts native he has traveled to London to work with cheerleaders and dancers. He has worked with professional athletes doing a summer internship with the St. Louis Rams, working with the Bridgeport Bluefish (Independent Professional Baseball team), and worked the Boston Marathon for years. He comes to us after working with three Division I universities (Brown, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and most recently Florida A&M University). Thomas joined JOI in August of 2018 and serves as the Head Athletic Trainer at The Bolles School.

Greg earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training at the University of North Florida in 2011. While in school at UNF, Greg worked with the UNF Men’s Basketball team, held an internship with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2010 Training Camp and Preseason, assisted the Jacksonville University Football Team as a student athletic trainer, and finished his clinical duties at Bishop Kenny High School. After graduating, he attended the University of Arkansas as a Graduate Assistant for the Men’s Tennis team and Spirit Squad. Upon leaving Arkansas, Greg accepted a job in Anchorage, AK to work with the local high school athletes for a year prior to working for JOI.
Andrew “Drew” Heideman, MPT, ATC, PES

Drew has been with JOI Rehabilitation staff more than six years. He joined the rehabilitation team in 2004, and in 2009 became Site Coordinator of JOI’s largest rehabilitation facility, San Marco. Prior to working with JOI, he completed athletic training internships with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars and the USAT National Triathlon Training Center. He has also served as Athletic Trainer for the Jacksonville Barracudas hockey team. As an athletic trainer and avid triathlete, he enjoys working with elite and amateur athletes who have a special interest in endurance sports, including running, cycling and multisport.
He serves as a clinical liaison between JOI Rehab sites and JOI physicians to sustain consistent and exceptional patient care and to ensure that current staff is given educational opportunities to develop and enhance clinical skills.
Adam Hutchison, PT, DPT

Adam is originally from Chicagoland Area and moved to Jacksonville shorty after graduate school. While in PT school Adam fulfilled multiple clinical rotations all over the country, with a special focus on orthopedics and sports medicine. During his final year at the University of Dayton, Adam was able to complete an Independent Study at DePaul University in Chicago working with Division I college athletes. Adam started working at JOI in June 2018 and currently splits his time between the San Marco and Nassau clinics. In his off time Adam enjoys exercising, playing soccer and spending time outside with friends and family.
Sarah Katsaras, MPT, OCS
Graduated from FSU with Bachelor’s of Science in Biology in 1994. Earned Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from University of St. Augustine in 1999. Has been with JOI for 11 years, opened the JOI Spine Center in 2011 and has been coordinating the Spine Club meetings for 6 years. She also earned her OCS certification in 2011.

Lyndsey McCool, LMT
Lyndsey has worked in multiple physical therapy offices administratively. In 2010, Lyndsey joined the military and became an EMT and military medic. After serving time in the military, she worked as a medical assistant, and eventually decided to learn the skill of massage. Lyndsey attended Alpha School of Massage and specializes in Neuromuscular Massage. Lyndsey believes that massage is a special gift because it is equally as good for you as it feels. Lyndsey works at both our San Marco and Fleming Island facilities.
Kurtis Mullaney, PT, DPT, ATC, LAT

Kurtis was born and raised in Jacksonville and is a graduate of Bishop Kenny High School. Before pursuing a career in rehab, he played baseball for FGCU. He enjoys working with patients who have experienced orthopedic and sports injuries. He has experience working with professional and collegiate baseball, collegiate and high school football, and working in outpatient orthopedics. He has been with JOI since August of 2015.

Matt earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training at the University of North Florida in 2014. While in school at UNF, Matt worked with the UNF Men’s Baseball team, Jacksonville University Football Team, and high school athletes at Nease, Bolles, and Episcopal as a student athletic trainer. After graduating, he attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for the university’s intramural sports program and Damien Memorial High School. While at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Matt completed his research thesis on concussion assessment of children ages 5 to 12 years old. Matt is currently Head Athletic Trainer for Paxon School for Advanced Studies providing medical coverage for the Golden Eagles student-athletes.

Justin is a Jacksonville, FL native who attended First Coast High School. Through high school and college he competed in semiprofessional bull riding. He first came to JOI during his rodeo career and now serves as the marketing liaison. While pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at the University of North Florida, he interned with the Jacksonville University’s football team, University of North Florida Men’s Soccer team, and Bishop Kenny High School. After graduating from the University of North Florida, Justin went on to advance his educational career at the University of Cincinnati where he graduated with Masters of Health Care Administration. At JOI, Justin is heavily involved in promoting JOI via many avenues.

Andrew earned an Athletic Training degree from the University of North Florida in 2012. While at UNF, Andrew worked with Bishop Kenny High School, Episcopal School of Jacksonville, Bartram Trail High School, and UNF Track & Field. After graduating from UNF, Andrew worked as an Athletic Trainer with the Providence School of Jacksonville football team. In November 2012, Andrew joined JOI and is currently the Head Athletic Trainer for The Episcopal School of Jacksonville providing athletic training services to student-athletes.
Matt Paulus, MS, ATC, LAT

Matt has been a Certified Athletic Trainer since 1997, and especially enjoys working with post-operative knees and shoulders. He was the Sports Medicine Director (2002-08) the JOI Rehabilitation – San Marco office and Head Athletic Trainer for Bishop Kenny High School from 1999 to 2005. He specializes in throwing and running biomechanics, foot orthotics fabrication, biomechanical analysis (throwing, running), and soft tissue mobilization using the Graston Technique (Level II trained). Currently, Matt is the Site Coordinator of JOI Rehabilitation – San Marco office.
Laran Phelps, LMT
Laran Phelps is a native of Amelia Island and Jacksonville and is a graduate of Heritage Institute in Jacksonville, FL (2003). With over a decade of experience in the field working as an LMT and also as an Instructor, Laran brings deep understanding and knowledge of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology into each session. Her passion as an LMT is in Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Medical Massage, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation.
She is a Member of the Florida State Massage Therapy Association (FSMTA) as well as the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). Laran is currently working towards obtaining Board Certification from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), which is the highest elected credential in the field of Massage Therapy.
In her free time, Laran enjoys spending time with her daughters at the beach, swimming, camping, geocaching, or finding an outdoor adventure.

She received her post-graduate certification in Mobilization of the Spine and Extremities in 1992. Recently, Debbie became an Orthopedic Certified Specialist. Debbie has been with JOI since 1995.

Jon is a Jacksonville, FL native who attended the Providence School where he also played baseball. Jon was very active in sports growing up. Upon graduating, he began his career path in the Hospitality Industry in which he worked for 13 years. He chose this industry because of his love for people and love for helping and providing a service. After obtaining his A.A. at FCCJ, he moved to Orlando, FL and attended UCF’s Rosen School of Hospitality Management. Upon completing his time at UCF he returned back to Jacksonville, FL and began managing a local restaurant. Several years after beginning his management path in the industry he decided that he wanted to still serve and help people, but in a different way. He returned to school while continuing to work in the industry and for Baptist Health as a PAS representative. Upon completing his studies he began his career with JOI as a Physical Therapist Assistant. In August of 2012, he accepted the position of Spine Centers Coordinator. In March of 2015, he accepted the position of Sports Center Coordinator. He currently treats patients at our Sports Center location full time.
Pamela J Wilson OTR/L, CHT

Pam came to JOI following many years of practice In the Boston and Dallas areas. She has extensive experience in traumatic, work and sports related injuries of the upper extremity. A Certified Hand Therapist since 1991 she has been with JOI since 2008.
Alex Witter, ATC
Alex Witter oversees the medical care for the Jacksonville Armada FC first team as an employee of Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute Rehabilitation. He is responsible for all sports medicine department operations, coordination with physicians and other transdisciplinary team members, as well as day-to-day care.
Previous to hire at Jacksonville Armada FC, Witter spent 2017-2018 as a Resident Athletic Trainer at Florida Gulf Coast University for the men’s soccer and women’s tennis teams. In this position, Witter authorized insurance, claim filing and processing, supervised students in the Athletic Training Education Program and Pre-Athletic Training Students. The year before, Witter worked at IMG Academy where he oversaw the healthcare for the tennis athletes (~220), managed inventory for the academy, placed and manage work orders, and covered additional home events.
Witter is a BOC Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer, licensed in the State of Florida as well as being CPR/AED certified. Over the past 2 years, Witter also earned Level 1 and Level 2 HawkGrip Certifications (IASTM), Functional Movement Screen Level 1, and F-MARC FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Witter is a native of Florida and working towards his Master’s degree in Kinesiology with a Dual concentration in Corrective Exercise & Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Sports Conditioning.
Dawn has been with JOI since March 2013.
