Understanding Rotator Cuff Tears and Repairs
Understanding Rotator Cuff Tears and Repairs by Dr. Kevin Kaplan
This article will discuss rotator cuff injuries and they repaired surgically. The rotator cuff muscles are made of four muscles: Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Subscapularis and Teres Minor.

Rotator Cuff Muscles
Rotator Cuff tears are common injuries to the shoulder joint and can produce a significant amount of pain and dysfunction. These tears often occur in sports like baseball and football.
Prevention of Rotator Cuff Injuries
A prevention program should include flexibility, strengthening and endurance of the rotator cuff. Athletes really need to focus on these smaller rotator cuff muscles. The strengthening exercises are very specific to each of the muscles. This is often overlooked in weightlifting programs in a gym. Here are some of the rotator cuff strengthening exercises:

External Rotation with Bands

IR With Band

Shoulder Flexion with Bands

Prone Abduction of the Shoulder
