About the School
Florida State College of Jacksonville (FSCJ) is a public institution ranked among the top colleges and universities in Florida offering affordable, high-quality education with multiple campuses throughout Jacksonville. Two of those campuses house FSCJ’s athletic programs. Previously known as The Stars, The Blue Wave baseball and softball teams are based at the North campus on Capper Road. Co-Ed Cross country, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, and Indoor and Beach Volleyball compete on the South campus on Beach Blvd. FSCJ Blue Wave is a member of the Mid-Florida Conference within the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 8.
Athletics at Florida State College of Jacksonville
FSCJ Men’s Basketball program recently qualified for NJCAA Region VIII Tournament the 2020-2021 season where they ranked 7th in the state of Florida. Academic and athletic performance from this season placed three men’s basketball players on the First Team All-Central Conference Team and one player on the Second Team All-Central Conference. FSCJ Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country programs also earned their place at NJCAA DII 2020-2021 National Championships. The men’s team represented FSCJ at the NJCAA Championship finishing 13th overall where they were ranked 14th in the nation proceeding the national championship meet. The women’s team ended the last week of rankings at 17th in the nation. FSCJ Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country programs excelled this season both in the classroom and on the course where they earned NJCAA Scholar All-American Team Honors.
FSCJ’s Softball program swept the state tournament in 2009 earning the team a slot in the NJCAA National Tournament. The Blue Wave Volleyball program has qualified numerous times to the NJCAA State Tournament, most recently in 2017, 2018. Our Women’s Basketball program has experienced much success over the years with three consecutive 20-plus win seasons while nationally ranked and back-to-back Mid-Florida Conference Champions. FSCJ’s previous tennis program made multiple appearances at NCJAA National tournament most recently in 2013, 2014.
FSCJ Sports Medicine and JOI
Florida State College of Jacksonville and Jacksonville Orthopedic Institute (JOI) have had an established partnership for over 20 years. The current JOI Sports Medicine Team for FSCJ consists of Team Physician Dr. Carlos Tandron, Certified Head Athletic Trainer Michelle Duclos, and Certified Assistant Athletic Trainer Kori Price. Dr. Tandron is an orthopedic surgeon, located at JOI San Marco, and a founding member of Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute. Michelle Duclos provides sports medicine coverage for Cross Country, Volleyball, and Men’s and Woman’s Basketball programs, in addition to rehabilitation services at JOI San Marco Rehab. Kori Price provides sports medicine coverage for FSCJ’s Softball and Baseball programs, in addition to assisting services in Dr. Tandron’s clinic.
