At the University of Florida he had the opportunity to assist with treatment of Division I collegiate athletes in a variety of sports and professional athletes in the National Football League (NFL). He has been a physical therapist for the touring companies of the Broadway shows Wicked and Shrek the Musical. He also served as a physical therapist for the Atlanta Falcons (NFL) and Georgia Force (AFL) cheerleading squads. Steve has treated Ironman and ITU World Championship triathletes, and has been a member of high school sports medicine teams. Steve joined JOI in 2014 and brings his interest in manual therapy and sports medicine to our clinic.

She has a passion for sports and orthopedic injuries. She is currently working towards her manual therapy certification and hopes to sit for her Orthopedic Specialist Boards in the near future.

Joan worked at Baptist Medical Center in the Health/Wellness/Cardiac Rehab department for nine years. After receiving a second PT degree, she enjoys working in inpatient/outpatient hospital settings, home health, skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient Sports Medicine physical therapy. She is trained in the Graston Technique, Electric Therapy Point System (ETPS), McConnell Taping, Body Balance for Performance Golf Program, and personal fitness programs. Formally with the Aspen Colorado Hospital Physical Therapy Department, Joan joined JOI Beaches Rehab in 2005, and is currently the Senior Physical Therapist.

Andrew earned an Athletic Training degree from the University of North Florida in 2012. While at UNF, Andrew worked with Bishop Kenny High School, Episcopal School of Jacksonville, Bartram Trail High School, and UNF Track & Field. After graduating from UNF, Andrew worked as an Athletic Trainer with the Providence School of Jacksonville football team. In November 2012, Andrew joined JOI and is currently the Head Athletic Trainer for Providence School of Jacksonville providing athletic training services to student-athletes.

She continued on to earn a Masters degree in Exercise Science while working as a Graduate Intern at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where she was the Athletic Trainer for the Men’s Football, Wrestling, and Women’s Softball teams. After moving to Florida, Lisa worked as the Head Athletic Trainer at Flagler Palm Coast High School in Palm Coast, FL. Lisa joined JOI in July of 2012, and is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Bishop J. Snyder High School, providing medical coverage for all Cardinal student-athletes.

Cristian is currently practices Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist at the JOI Fleming Island Rehabilitation Clinic. He is also a Certified Hand Therapist. Cristian treats all types of orthopedic conditions including joint replacements, sports injuries, spine and specializes in the treatment of the upper extremity. Cristian also works as an instructor at the University of St. Augustine where he teaches both Occupational and Physical therapy Students. Currently, He is the Site Coordinator of The Fleming Island Rehabilitation Location. Cristian is an avid paddle boarder and loves spending time with his family.

Tiffany is from Utah, she has 4 siblings. She enjoys running and playing board games with family. She graduated from Weber State University in 2011 with a degree in athletic training. She came to Florida in 2013 to attend the University of Saint Augustine for Health sciences to pursue her physical therapy degree. Tiffany graduated April 2015 and joined the JOI team in June 2015.

Luke is a graduate from University of North Florida with a major in Athletic Training. His clinical experience includes Division-I athletics with the UNF softball and soccer team. He was also part of the Sports Medicine staff for Jacksonville University Football. He is currently the Athletic Trainer for Fernandina Beach High School Athletics, providing sports medicine coverage for practices and games. Luke focuses his treatment based on a combination of manual therapy and therapeutic exercises to build strength, stability and improve ROM. Luke enjoys playing beach volleyball, kayaking, swimming, and playing guitar.

For the past seven years Sonya has worked in outpatient orthopaedic rehabilitation and has been with JOI Rehab since the first clinic opened in 2003. She is actively involved in the JOI Sports Medicine Program where she serves as assistant sports medicine director and helps with sports medicine coverage at the high school and collegiate level. Sonya also works closely with the Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association (JJVA), helping to provide sports medicine coverage for all of their home tournaments.

Justin is a graduate from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences with a specific focus in manual therapy. During his clinical experiences he treated a wide range of sports and orthopaedic injuries and had the opportunity to work directly with various collegiate and professional athletes. Prior to becoming a Physical Therapist, Justin graduated from the University of Cincinnati, with a Bachelors of Business Administration, and worked as a Sales/Marketing Manager for an International Manufacturing Supplier. Justin has a passion for therapeutic exercise program design/implementation, functional movement analysis, and sports injury prevention. He is currently working towards obtaining his Manual Therapy Certification from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and plans to further his knowledge of functional movement analysis/sports injury prevention by pursuing a Functional Movement Systems Certification. Justin’s hobbies include cabrewing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, fantasy football, finger painting, zumba, competitive eating, and powerlifting.

Amelia is a recent graduate from Florida State College of Jacksonville. During her clinical experience, Amelia focused on sports and Orthopaedic injuries. Not only did she work with younger athletes, but also had the opportunity to work with older athletes who just "wanted to stay in the game." Prior to becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant, Amelia attained a Bachelors of Arts in Dance Studies from the University of South Florida and is classically trained in ballet and modern. Upon graduation, Amelia presented a dissertation explaining the benefit of having biannual physical therapy screenings on the students of the dance department. Amelia is looking towards teaching dance again in her spare time and is excited to continue on her journey with JOI.

Theresa initially came to JOI as a DME Coordinator at the Beaches location. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from the University of North Florida in 2010. While at UNF, she interned with UNF Women’s Soccer, Jacksonville University Football, Fletcher High School, and JOI Rehabilitation. Upon graduation, Theresa worked as an athletic trainer and a biology teacher at University High School in Orange City, FL. In August of 2011, Theresa became the Head Athletic Trainer at Episcopal High School, providing medical coverage to all of their athletes.

Ehren Allen performed his undergraduate training in Music at the Florida State University. He went on to complete his professional training in Physical Therapy at Florida A&M University. He practiced in many specialty areas since 2000, including neurology, pediatrics, and private practice before deciding to specialize in orthopedics and sports medicine. He completed his certification as an Orthopedic Manual Therapist in 2007 through the Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Group and currently incorporates manual therapy into the treatment of various orthopedic conditions and injuries.

Heidi is a certified Active Release Provider and a former collegiate runner. As an avid triathlete, Heidi enjoys working with athletes of all types but specializes in analyzing biomechanics for multisport athletes.

Jessica  is originally from New Jersey and moved to Florida for graduate school. She decided to go back to school after being exposed to occupational therapy, and falling in love with the career. During her internships she gained experience in many settings including inpatient rehab, schools, pediatrics, and outpatient orthopedics. She thoroughly enjoyed working in the outpatient setting and decided to pursue her career in this setting. She is excited to begin her career at JOI.

Megan Burke graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in Spring 2014 with her bachelors degree in Athletic Training. In Fall 2014, Megan continued her education as a graduate assistant at the University of Florida. Megan worked two years in the Alachua County school district serving as a high school outreach athletic trainer through the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Institute of Gainesville. In addition to providing sports medicine coverage for her high school, Megan spent time working with the University Athletic Association- mainly covering high school summer camps and volunteering at events such as the Climb for Cancer and Pepsi Florida Relays. Last summer, Megan received her certification as an NSCA- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist; this certification allows Megan to develop more functional rehabilitation programs for her athletes as well as help aid in the prevention of new injuries.  In Spring 2016, Megan graduated from the University of Florida with her masters in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training. This is her first year working at Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute, and she is very excited to begin her time as the Head Athletic Trainer at Atlantic Coast High School. Megan is passionate about the field of athletic training and hopes to become a strong advocate for the profession- primarily promoting the importance of having athletic trainers in every high school across the country.

Anna earned her Athletic Training degree from University of South Florida in 2013. While there she worked with football, basketball, track and field, and a few high schools in the area. She gained experience working at Texas A&M University- Kingsville as the Athletic Trainer for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball and assisting with football. She continued to earn her Masters degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science at The University of Tampa. Anna joined JOI in August 2015 and is currently Head Athletic Trainer for Paxon School for Advanced Studies providing medical coverage for the Golden Eagles student-athletes.

Michelle gained valuable experience at UF by working with the volleyball and football teams. She later interned at the University of South Florida and worked with the football team, which was invited to the Meineke Car Care Bowl, the first bowl game in USF history. While at USF, she worked mainly with the Women’s volleyball team, and helped to cover the NCAA Women’s Final Four in 2008 and the NCAA Men’s First and Second Rounds hosted in Tampa. She also helped host the Big East Tennis and Baseball Tournaments in 2008. She came to JOI in 2008, and is presently the athletic trainer for events and practices at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Michelle also serves as Sports Medicine Director alongside Bryan Anderson.

Ben graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. in Psychology (2007) and from the University of St. Augustine program with a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree (2014). He has worked primarily in outpatient orthopedics treating surgical and non-surgical conditions from the neck to the foot and vestibular dysfunctions. His doctoral studies developed a strong background in manual and orthopedic physical therapy and allowed him the opportunity to complete all courses for his Manual therapy Certification (MTC) from the University of St. Augustine. In his off time, he enjoys working out, surfing and spending time with his friends and family.

Julia is an Occupational Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist with over 20 years of experience treating upper extremity orthopaedic diagnoses. She obtained her Certification in Hand Therapy in 1992, after specializing in the field for many years. Julia has extensive experience in custom splinting and direct patient care. Julia has been the Hand Therapy Coordinator for JOI Rehabilitation for the past four years.

Greg earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training at the University of North Florida in 2011. While in school at UNF, Greg worked with the UNF Men’s Basketball team, held an internship with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2010 Training Camp and Preseason, assisted the Jacksonville University Football Team as a student athletic trainer, and finished his clinical duties at Bishop Kenny High School. After graduating, he attended the University of Arkansas as a Graduate Assistant for the Men’s Tennis team and Spirit Squad. Upon leaving Arkansas, Greg accepted a job in Anchorage, AK to work with the local high school athletes for a year prior to working for JOI.

Drew has been with JOI Rehabilitation staff more than six years. He joined the rehabilitation team in 2004, and in 2009 became Site Coordinator of JOI's largest rehabilitation facility, San Marco. Prior to working with JOI, he completed athletic training internships with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars and the USAT National Triathlon Training Center. He has also served as Athletic Trainer for the Jacksonville Barracudas hockey team. As an athletic trainer and avid triathlete, he enjoys working with elite and amateur athletes who have a special interest in endurance sports, including running, cycling and multisport.

He serves as a clinical liaison between JOI Rehab sites and JOI physicians to sustain consistent and exceptional patient care and to ensure that current staff is given educational opportunities to develop and enhance clinical skills.

Kelly is a native of Jacksonville and began her career as a Massage Therapist when she attended The Florida School of Massage in Gainesville in 1995 where she was certified in Massage & Hydrotherapy. Having a love for sports, she completed the Sports Massage Program in 1996 that had offered her the knowledge to work athletes. She became licensed in 1996 and began working in Rehabilitation in the Jacksonville area for the last 20 years. She continued her work with Professional athletes when she worked privately with PGA Tour players, Senior PGA Tour players, MLB, and currently with the NFL working with the Jacksonville Jaguars. She works with all ages and specializes in Sports massage, Rehabilitation massage, and Pregnancy massage including being a trained Doula. In her spare time, she loves volunteering in the community, watching her children play sports, spending time with her family and staying active! She joined JOI recently and looks forward to lasting career as their massage therapist and working with all of the fantastic therapists.

Matt has been a Certified Athletic Trainer since 1997, and especially enjoys working with post-operative knees and shoulders. He was the Sports Medicine Director (2002-08) the JOI Rehabilitation - San Marco office and Head Athletic Trainer for Bishop Kenny High School from 1999 to 2005. He specializes in throwing and running biomechanics, foot orthotics fabrication, biomechanical analysis (throwing, running), and soft tissue mobilization using the Graston Technique (Level II trained). Currently, Matt is the Site Coordinator of JOI Rehabilitation – San Marco office.

Laran is a native of Amelia Island and Jacksonville but, after spending several years living and exploring the Pacific Northwest in Oregon & California, she recently relocated back to the NE Florida area.
Laran is a graduate of Heritage Institute in Jacksonville, FL (2003). Her passion as an LMT is in Medical Massage, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation. She has worked with several elite athletes and local sports teams. With over a decade of experience, Laran brings a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology into each session. She is currently an active Professional Member of the Florida State Massage Therapy Association (FSMTA) and working towards obtaining her Board Certification from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) in Massage Therapy, which is the highest elected credential in her field.
In her free time, Laran enjoys spending time with her daughters at the beach, swimming, camping, geocaching, or finding an outdoor adventure. She also enjoys participating in beach volleyball, disc golf, snowboarding, and martial arts. Laran is also a huge football fan and can be found wildly cheering for her teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars & the Oregon Ducks.

Meghan comes to JOI Rehabilitation with a wide range of experience. While pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at the University of North Florida, she interned at the Providence School of Jacksonville, the Bolles School, Jacksonville University Football and UNF track and Field. She became a Certified Athletic Trainer upon graduation in 2009. She attended graduate school at Mississippi State University to gain valuable experience and expand her knowledge base. She served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with the volleyball team for two years. After completing her Master’s degree, Meghan worked at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, MS. Here she was responsible for the care of all the athletes including football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, golf and cheerleading.

Jon is a Jacksonville, FL native who attended the Providence School where he also played baseball. Jon was very active in sports growing up. Upon graduating, he began his career path in the Hospitality Industry in which he worked for 13 years. He chose this industry because of his love for people and love for helping and providing a service. After obtaining his A.A. at FCCJ, he moved to Orlando, FL and attended UCF’s Rosen School of Hospitality Management. Upon completing his time at UCF he returned back to Jacksonville, FL and began managing a local restaurant. Several years after beginning his management path in the industry he decided that he wanted to still serve and help people, but in a different way. He returned to school while continuing to work in the industry and for Baptist Health as a PAS representative. Upon completing his studies he began his career with JOI as a Physical Therapist Assistant. In August of 2012, he accepted the position of Spine Centers Coordinator. In March of 2015, he accepted the position of Sports Center Coordinator. He currently treats patients at our Sports Center location full time.

Cristian treats all types of orthopedic conditions including joint replacements, sports injuries, spine and specializes in the treatment of the upper extremity. Cristian also works as an instructor at the University of St. Augustine where he teaches both Occupational and Physical therapy Students. Currently, He is the Site Coordinator of The Fleming Island Rehabilitation Location. Cristian is an avid paddle boarder and loves spending time with his family.

Katie found her passion for physical therapy while playing soccer in high school, club, and collegiately, and still enjoys running, yoga, and Jaguars football.
