What is the Jacksonville Orthopaedic Spine Team?
The Jacksonville Orthopaedic Spine Team is made up of physicians, physical therapists, massage therapists, and an acupuncturist. The team is split up between the two spine centers at our San Marco and South locations. The JOI Spine Team works in a vertically integrated system allowing strong communication between the physicians and the therapists in order to produce the best results in patient outcome. The spine team maintains communication regarding each specific patient as well as constantly collaborating on new and improved treatment and surgical techniques. In addition to rehab, the JOI Spine Team offers additional treatments including massage, acupuncture, and laser. Learn more about JOI Spine Team medical massage therapy in this VIDEO.
We are looking to grow our Massage Therapy Program, if you are a licensed massage therapist, please apply here.
Spine Center Treatments

Medical Laser Therapy
Lastly, all of the members of the JOI Spine Team are certified in medical laser therapy. Medical laser therapy works by penetrating damaged cells with the light from the laser. The changes in the cellular activity result in quicker healing times and decreased pain. This form of treatment is also available at each of the spine locations in JOI’s network. Currently, medical laser therapy is available at 3 JOI locations.
Dry Needling
This is offered at The Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute’s World Golf Village and Nassau locations.
The Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute Spine Club holds bi-annual meetings. These meetings, which include all of the spine physicians as well as therapists from all of JOI rehab, are held so that both groups can discuss topics, protocols, and advancements in spine treatments. Furthermore, there are subsections in the spine club. Certain therapists work together to review protocols while others work on giving presentations, posting blogs and articles, and completing rounds with doctors. This all plays a vital role in the vertical integration system that JOI has put in place with its physicians and therapists in order to fully enhance patient outcome.
