What is RSD?

RSD or Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy is a disorder that cause neuro-inflammatory symptoms. It is no more commonly referred to as CRPS or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

CRPS tends to cause a cluster of symptoms including

  • burning pain
  • tenderness
  • excessive swelling of an extremity
  • hot or cold feeling
  • skin appears red

What Causes CRPS?

The quick answer is that there is no definite cause for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.  What is known is that it seems to start with some sort of trauma. CRPS may come form a problem with the autonomic nervous system and the immune system.  However, there are patients who have this disease with no know trauma or cause.

Treatment of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Treatment may include physical or occupational therapy to address symptoms and neuromuscular control. Medications can help manage pain.

Other treatment outlets may include:

  • Mental Health Counseling
  • Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Recreation Therapy
  • Dry Needling
  • Microcurrent or E-stim
  • RSD or Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy
