Bishop John J. Snyder is a co-educational, college-prep school affiliated with the Diocese of St. Augustine.  Bishop Snyder High School was established in 2002 with the faith-based mission of instilling competence, conscience, and compassion into academic life. Since its founding, the student population of BJS has grown to over 450 students, and athletic programs/school facilities continue to grow and develop every year. The school thrives under the guidance of Principal Deacon David Yazdiya.

It is located on the Westside of Jacksonville at 5001 Samaritan Way, Jacksonville, FL 32210.

Sports Medicine at Bishop Snyder

Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute has been the Sports Medicine Provider for BSHS for the past 15 years.  Dr. Carlos Tandron, one of the founding members of JOI, is the acting team physician for Bishop Snyder Athletics. In addition to providing orthopedic sports medicine care for Bishop Snyder, Dr. Tandron also serves as team physician for various other high school and collegiate athletic programs in Jacksonville, including Bishop Kenny, Episcopal School of Jacksonville, Jacksonville University, and Florida State College of Jacksonville. As former Head Team Physician for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Dr. Tandron offers vast Sports Medicine experience to student-athletes. He specializes in treating orthopedic shoulder and knee injuries.

Lauren Whetzel has been the Head Athletic Trainer at Bishop John J. Snyder High School since 2021. As a Certified Athletic Trainer, she provides daily Sports Medicine coverage for practices and events at Bishop John Snyder. Certified Athletic Trainers can evaluate injuries, manage acute injury care, and provide basic rehabilitation services on-site at the school when athletic injuries occur during sports activities.  In addition, Lauren can assist with establishing physician care when needed – directing student-athletes and parents to the appropriate specialist for the best continuity of care.  Lauren is based out of our Westside Rehab clinic.

Bishop Snyder Athletics

The athletics program at BSHS continues to flourish under the direction of Athletics Director Zach Osbeck. Currently, they have 16 established sports programs available for student-athletes. During the 2020-2021 school year, Bishop Snyder High School Football won the Sunshine State Athletic Conference Championship, and the BJS Boys Basketball won its first-ever District Championship.
