Bishop Kenny High School is located in the center of Jacksonville, Florida, on the southern bank of the St. Johns River. The athletic facilities over look the TIAA Bank Field.

BKHS originally opened its doors as Central Catholic High School in 1954. The private school was soon named Bishop Kenny High School in honor of the Most Reverend William J. Kenny, the Third Bishop of St. Augustine.

BKHS Mission

Bishop Kenny’s Mission is to provide a culture of faith, a rigorous curriculum, and personal enrichment for all students. BKHS also to takes pride in building up athletes in the same manner.

Bishop Kenny Athletics

Bishop Kenny High School has a created a tradition of excellence in their athletics. BK has a total of 27 team state championships and 137 individual state champions. The most recent team state champions include the 2020 girls’ soccer team and the 2020 volleyball team.  There have also been numerous district and regional championships. The Athletic Director of Bishop Kenny High School is Mark Thorson.

Sports Medicine at Bishop Kenny

The Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute has been a part of this tradition of excellence and provided sports medicine care since 1992. The sports medicine staff, provided by the JOI, is led by Dr Carlos Tandron, lead team physician and has been with BKHS since 1992.

The JOI Certified Athletic Trainers for Bishop Kenny are Luke Bratton, Tim Wall, and Matthew Paulus. Certified Athletic Trainers are provided for the coverage of all athletics at Bishop Kenny and help provide emergency care.  They directly coordinate with Dr. Tandron, and other physicians at the Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute, for quick and quality care of the student athletes of Bishop Kenny High School.
