If you have knee pain, there are procedures and treatments that may help. A traditional knee replacement is a surgical procedure that relieves pain and discomfort. This procedure replaces the weight-bearing or worn out surfaces of the knee joint. Physicians use this traditional knee replacement when someone suffers from arthritis. Your JOI Physician will select the correct procedure when there is moderate to severe deformity from arthritis, injury, or osteoarthritis.
Meniscus tears, cartilage issues, and ligament tears are other causes of pain. Debilitating pain from osteoarthritis is much more common in the elderly. However, osteoarthritis can begin due to an injury when you are younger. That is why it is important not to wait when you have knee pain. Therefore, delaying care after a knee injury can cause damaging effects to the joint.
Your JOI physician can consult with you about a partial knee or total knee replacement. Often, surgery consists of replacing the damage to the joint surfaces with metal and plastic. At JOI, our doctors will perform the procedure that is right for you. In other words, you can trust that our skilled joint surgeons will find the procedure that works best for you.
Advancements in techniques and devices are occurring with total joint procedures each and every day. Our surgeons continue stay current with all of the innovative changes which occur. The recovery period varies, but our goal is the patient’s full return to mobility and function. You will be in good hands for the physical therapy aspect after surgery. JOI Rehab clinicians work with your physicians to make sure that you have the best possible outcome after surgery.

In partnership with Baptist Health, JOI now provides a minimally invasive Partial Knee Resurfacing. We also offer a Robotic Total Knee Joint Replacement. JOI surgeons perform more of these robotic surgical procedures than any other provider in the region. JOI and Baptist offer the highest level of experience when it comes to Robotic Surgery of the Knee. Above all, we know that your outcome from surgery is what matters most to you.
The surgeon uses a robotic arm system to precisely remove and repair only the area which has damage or arthritis. A small implant is positioned in the knee while preserving healthy bone, tissue and cartilage. This innovative procedure alleviates knee pain and restores function. Recovery time is about six weeks, which is half the time of a total knee replacement. Therefore, there is no reason not to seek out an evaluation by an orthopedic physician.
Candidates for this procedure are adults who are living with early to mid stage osteoarthritis of the knee. Patients who continue to experience pain with conservative treatment are also candidates. In addition, candidates in the second group who are ideal for this procedure are younger patients with joint issues. Younger patients who were previously not good candidates for total knee replacement.
